Thanks Leon. It wasn't snipe hunting. Resonance or lack of it is a major factor when it comes to the timbre of an instrument. When I loosened some of the screws I tightened, it brought back the warmth I had lost. Without giving too much away, I'll say that I know of at least one reputable guitar company that took it seriously and benefited. Maybe if you gave the heavy hitters a hit off your Metamucil it might clear up their ears.
