Everybody in Nashville raised the E to F# on the third pedal of the original Sho~Buds. It was impossible to raise and lower the same string, so no one lowered the top E until the mechanism changed. I lowered the wound E as you said, but it wasn't until the Emmons guitar came out in 1964, that I lowered both Es. All of the knee lever changes I have on my present setup, with the possible exception of E to F raise, were my choice for the Emmons guitars. When it came to offering pedal and knee setups, I was the guinea pig for both companies, so whatever I used came as a stock setup on both guitars unless otherwise specified.
