I believe size or weight does affect the tone of a guitar. I've owned heavyweights such as Fender 1000, Sho~Bud, Bigsby, and Sierra gearless and found they all had a warm sound the lighter guitars lack. Structural differences in all of them allowed for various degrees of sustain, but they shared a deeper and more resonant nuance that can't be dialed in electronically. The lack of nut rollers had a little something to do with some of the guitars, which makes me think experimenting more with rollers might help transfer those lost vibrations more uniformly throughout the cabinet.
