Re: Amp placement

I'm more relaxed when the steel sound is not directly in my ear, so my favorite placement would be flat on a hardwood floor and to my rear right, which disperses the lows and softens the highs. From there, on wood or carpet, I prefer tilting, angling, or any other means other than on a chair. When I have to put the amp in a chair, I still try to stay away from the direct sound. Highs have a tight pattern and lows are non-directional, so placing the amp in the positions I described gives me a truer reading of what the majority of the house is hearing. In a miked situation, I cut the highs, let the techs place the amp wherever they please, and hope for the best.
