Leon: I have never seen or played a GFI but I can say this much about Gene Fields: he has always been at the top of designing and engineering and is responsible for features in other guitars that he receives very little credit for. I wouldn't know what to say about the gearless models other than they are generally cleaner or purer sounding than guitars with key heads. My experience with a twenty five inch gearless guitar was that of string breakage but if the GFI has a shorter scale then I would say go for it. The response to the "GFI Experience" thread on the Forum was overwhelmingly in favor of the guitar.
